The C20 Summit 2015 took place on 15th-16th September 2015, at Boğaziçi University, Istanbul. Attended by 500+ civil society delegates from 52 countries, the summit was the climax of the C20 policy consultation and development process in 2015.
The summit incorporated innovative, interactive, and engaging session methodologies that provided a platform for participants to share their inspiring stories, present key facts, and develop joint advocacy strategies together (for further information, please see the summit program booklet, which is available to download here (PDF)).
The major output of the Summit was the C20 Communiqué, which was drafted with the participation of all summit participants and endorsed by all during the final day of the summit. More information about the communiqué, including the final document, is available here.
The final C20 communiqué was handed over to representatives of the 2015 G20 Presidency, including Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Cevdet Yilmaz, Turkey’s G20 Sherpa Ambassador Ms. Ayse Sinirlioglu, and Former Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Ali Babacan.
The summit program featured a number of high-profile keynote speakers, including Dr Sare Davutoglu, who shared her perspective on addressing global challenges with a particular focus on the refugee crisis, and Dr Daron Acemoglu who presented on the subject of “Democracy, Civil Society and Economic Growth.” A panel discussion prior to the summit closing ceremony gave five experts a chance to share their responses to the C20 Communiqué 2015. This panel included Mr Ufuk Akcigit (University of Pennsylvania), Ms Hilal Elver (UN Special Rapporteur on the Right of Food), Ms Shelly Inglis (UNDP Bureau for Policy and Program Support), Mr Sol Picciotto (BEPS Monitoring Group), and Mr. Gonenc Gurkaynak (lawyer).
