C20 Turkey analysis of G20 Commitments in 2015

The G20 outcomes may be assessed at two key levels. The first is the extent to which the policy commitments made by the G20 in 2015 (as articulated in the Antalya Leaders’ Declaration and its supporting documents) reflect the C20’s specific policy recommendations. Assessing the impact of the influencing work of the C20 through the review of the G20 communiqué and other documents is a first step in understanding the efficiency of the C20’s advocacy. This assessment will continue with an external evaluation of the whole C20 process.

G20 Engagement Groups' Statement on the Refugee Crisis

For the first time in history, all six G20 Engagement Groups (Business 20, Civil 20, Labor 20, Think 20 Women 20 and Youth 20) issued a joint statement ahead of the tenth annual G20 Leaders’ Summit, which called for greater collective action from G20 leaders to tackle the refugee crisis.

C20 at the G20 Summit

The G20 Heads of State Summit is being held in Antalya, Turkey on 15 – 16 November. This wealthy and powerful bloc of countries represents two-thirds of the world's population, 85 percent of the global GDP and over 75 percent of global trade. However, wealth does not guarantee an automatic reduction in discriminatory outcomes for economically excluded sections of society, especially women, young people and other marginalised groups. Unless benefits of economic growth reach everyone, particularly the most disadvantaged, the global economic, social and political predicament is likely to deteriorate.

Towards An Earnest Inclusion Of All In The World Economy

Civil society’s engagement with the G20 has dramatically improved in recent years. What started out as an informal engagement in 2008 has turned into an organised policy and advocacy platform formally recognised by the G20 during Russia’s presidency in 2013. The Civil 20 (C20), one of the six formal engagement groups, seeks to communicate concrete and substantive policy propositions to G20 leaders in order to promote sustainable and inclusive development.

C20 Communiqué 2015 handed over to G20 Presidency

Following the endorsement of the C20 Communiqué 2015 by over 500 civil society participants from 52 countries at the C20 Summit 2015, the communiqué was officially handed over to representatives of 2015 G20 Presidency during the summit closing ceremony. The C20 Summit took place at Bogazici University, Istanbul on 15th and 16th September 2015.
